Phenomenon 18 — The Breath Between Leaves
Classification: Atmospheric Botanical Event
Not all winds belong to the weather.
On certain evenings, when the Gardens have spent the day beneath heavy clouds and the air carries the scent of approaching rain, the leaves begin to move long before the breeze arrives.
Observers often describe it as a single breath.
Not enough to disturb the flowers.
Only enough to ripple through the oldest leaves, one after another, as though something unseen is quietly passing beneath them.
The phenomenon has never been recorded during daylight.
It most frequently occurs along forgotten footpaths, around weathered gravestones within the Sleepy Hollows, and beside abandoned wish bottles left beneath climbing ivy.
Curiously, no lantern flame has ever flickered during the event.
Only the leaves respond.
Several Keepers have reported discovering fresh dew immediately afterward, even on otherwise dry nights.
The droplets disappear before sunrise.
No explanation has yet been accepted.
